Working Offline: The power of a USB Drive

Working Offline: The power of a USB Drive

We as teachers are exposed to many circumstances and difficulties that can make our job a real challenge to bring the best to our students in class. Nowadays, working with technology should be a must regarding educational practice. Unfortunately, not all educational centers and institutions make their best to offer the appropriate tools for the education of their students and for facilitating the teacher's job. Here it is when a teacher needs to learn how to deal with all of these situations and find the way to cope with obstacles and solve possible problems that might appear for teaching a class.

Here, I want to share with you the magic of online tools that you can create just by using a USB drive, H5P offline software, a MS Word document and a lot of your imagination. Look at how to create magic with something simple, charge-free and everlasting for your job as an updated teacher from the 21st century.

"A USB Drive is a really powerful digital tool if you know how to use it"

Let's create your Game Challenge
(To make offline classrooms more digital)

Would you like to create a Digital Worksheet like the one you see below? So, follow these steps so that you can make yours, create a very entertaining and interesting class for your students and have different back-up activities that will help you in your work as a teacher anywhere. Just remember to save it on a USB pendrive and that's all.

1) Go to Lumi Education and download the program (Choose the non-upgradable option so that you do not have problems when working offline)

2) Once you have downloaded the software to your computer, create your activities in H5P following a progressive teaching style (Bloom's Taxonomy is highly recommended)

3) Convert your activities in HTML and save them in a folder. You can do this by clicking "File - Export - Save as HTML"

4) Find the path to the H5P sofware (the route to the app) and copy all its content into another folder.

5) Create your MS Power Point from scratch or get it done by Canva. Once you have the PPT downloaded, save it in the same folder you are saving the H5P files (in HTML) for later interacting with the downloaded H5P activities in an offline way.

6) Start making the hyperlinks from your MS Power Point to the files.
(Warning: Make sure you are using the correct path of the files. If you save the files into another folder, the hyperlinks will generate errors and won't take you to the H5P files)

7) Once you have created eveything, upload all these material to a cloud where it can be downloaded (Google Drive, Onedrive, Dropbox, Mega, etc)

8) Voila! Your "Offline Game Challenge" is ready to be downloaded in a USB drive to carry anywhere and be used by anyone.

What if I want to create a "Digital Worksheet"?
(To use in a multimodal way: Printable and Digital)

Now, if you want to create a Worksheet to be printed and used in a digital way instead of a Power Point game-alike, just follow steps 1-6 from the previous description and then do as follows:

9) Create your Worksheet in MS Word by making screenshots of your H5P activities. Save it in the same folder you are saving the program and the H5P files and save it in PDF format for a better performance while interacting with the Digital Worksheet.

10) Start making the hyperlinks from your MS Word worksheet to the files.
(Warning: Make sure you are using the correct path of the files. If you save the files into another folder, the hyperlinks will generate errors of connectivity)

12) Once you have created eveything, upload all these material to a cloud where it can be downloaded (Google Drive, Onedrive, Dropbox, Mega, etc)

13) Voila! Your "DigitalWorksheet" is ready to be, printed, downloaded in a USB drive to carry anywhere and be used by anyone.

(This Digital Worksheet can be worked either: Printable or Digital)

If you click the link below, you will be able to download my content. Notice that all these files and folders are compressed in .zip format, so you will need to decompress it by right-clicking and saving it as a folder. Once you have downloaded the full package, you will be able to navigate the worksheet and work all of its activities OFFLINE. Amazing, isn't it?
