H5P: A really powerful tool for teachers

Technology is constantly changing the way we do the things, the way we understand the world, the way we communicate and of course, the way we learn and teach new things. Years ago, English language textbooks came with cassettes and even vinyls for practicing listening and conversations. Later, it evolved into CD-ROMs that actually some schools and universities are still using for their classes.

Nowadays, it is strange to find any of the tools mentioned previously but they paved the path to the technological and digital tools we have today. One of these is the powerful and amazing H5P.

H5P is currently a really powerful tool used by thousands of teachers that want to create their own material and exercises in an attempt to personalize their teaching practice and methodology. I personally use it a lot and it really helps me when it comes to dynamize my classes at university. Look at the type of activities that you can create for your classes which can be customized and personalized according to your students' need and your teaching style:

But, where to find this amazing digital tool?

You can find it for free in a platform called Lumi and you can take advantage of all the benefits it brings to your role as a teacher and the many possibilities it offers to make your classes much more engaging and interesting. However, the only thing that can be considered as a disadvantage when you use it for free is that all the material you create is public and can be accessed by anybody who knows Lumi. So, it is like you are creating material for otrher people too and Lumi takes your copyright provided that you accepted to use their platform.

So, having said that, H5P can give you lots of possibilities to create your classes, activities and take out the best of your students as well as developing the project you need to do for the Multimofdality and Digital Resources class.

Something important to consider is not to use H5P just because it is fun, entertaining and amazing. It is very important that teachers understand the strong link that these H5P tools must have with Critical Thinking objectives for the creation of material and for guiding classes in a better way.

Organizing H5P tools into Bloom’s Taxonomy categories is recommendable because it helps educators design learning materials with clear pedagogical intent. By aligning each tool with cognitive levels—from remembering facts to creating original work—teachers can ensure a balanced progression of activities that build knowledge step by step. This structure also makes it easier to choose the right tool for specific learning outcomes, avoiding random use of technology and instead fostering purposeful engagement, deeper understanding, and skill development across different stages of learning.
